Why are Vitamins and minerals required for health and vitality ?

 

The importance of vitamins and minerals to health, fitness and vitality is undisputed. A sufficient intake helps us to look good, feel good and enjoy life to the full – whatever our age! It is recommended that we eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day in order to achieve an optimal intake of vitamins and minerals. However, a supplement may also help to safeguard your dietary intake.

Vitamin A

 – essential for healthy eyes, skin and growth. Also an important antioxidant and immune system component.

Biotin

– takes part in the metabolism of protein, fats and carbohydrates and plays a helping role in the production of antibodies.

Thiamin (Vitamin B1)

– helps to produce energy from food and is involved in maintaining the nervous and digestive system.

Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)

– required for energy release from food and plays a role in the production and repair of body tissues and the formation of antibodies.

Niacin

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)

Magnesium

Magnesium is vital for cell formation, energy metabolism, the regulation of calcium metabolism, the absorption of Vitamin B6 and for the proper functioning of nerves and muscles. It activates and regulates about 300 enzymes and is necessary for heart function and circulation as well as being involved in blood pressure.

Iron

– is essential for oxygen uptake and energy release from food and to help support the body’s immune system. The body cannot manufacture iron, so its entire supply must come from the diet.

Zinc

– an important mineral for health. Over 75% of zinc is concentrated in the bones, muscles and skin. It is vital for the functioning of about 200 enzymes, and is involved in mechanisms concerning the formation of bone tissue, tissue repair, insulin production, carbohydrate metabolism, and the immune system.
